<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>Solar radiation that incidents on the Libyan land represents practically unlimited reservoir of clean and inexhaustible energy. There are only few solar energy applications in the country, mainly for domestic water heating, telecommunication stations, and some individual houses far away from the central grid. This paper discusses the economics and reliability of distributed solar, photovoltaic, PV, power generation for the scattered towns, villages and individual homes, in the Libyan Desert, and to compare it to the central grid and diesel engines that are usually used to supply electricity to some of these towns and villages around the country.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>солнечная энергия</kwd><kwd>фотовольтаика</kwd><kwd>солнечная генерация</kwd><kwd>распределенная энергетика</kwd><kwd>малые населенные пункты</kwd><kwd>экономическая целесообразность</kwd><kwd>надежность</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>solar PV</kwd><kwd>distributed power generation</kwd><kwd>villages</kwd><kwd>economics</kwd><kwd>reliability</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Encyclopaedia Britannica, 15th Edition, Macropaedia Knowledge in Depth, 1980, vol. 10, pp. 875.</mixed-citation><mixed-citation xml:lang="en">Encyclopaedia Britannica, 15th Edition, Macropaedia Knowledge in Depth, 1980, vol. 10, pp. 875.</mixed-citation></citation-alternatives></ref><ref id="cit2"><label>2</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Maycock P.D., Stirewalt E.N.
