<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>While hydraulic fracturing has become a cornerstone of modern oil production, the sustainable management of its polysaccharide-rich waste fluids remains a significant research challenge. This review investigates the feasibility of employing dark fermentation as a bio-based technology for the degradation of these fluids and the concomitant production of biohydrogen. We provide a comprehensive overview of the dark fermentation process and delineate the key structural features of fracturing fluid polysaccharides relevant to their microbial breakdown. Moreover, the current state of knowledge concerning the microorganisms involved in this anaerobic bioconversion was evaluated. Significantly, critical knowledge gaps and propose potential research directions were identified, particularly focusing on pre-treatment methodologies to overcome the inherent recalcitrance of certain polysaccharides and optimize biohydrogen yields from these industrial waste streams.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>ксантановая камедь</kwd><kwd>гуаровая камедь</kwd><kwd>карбоксиметилцеллюлоза</kwd><kwd>крахмал</kwd><kwd>биоводород</kwd><kwd>темновая ферментация</kwd><kwd>гидравлический разрыв пласта</kwd><kwd>предварительная обработка</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>xanthan gum</kwd><kwd>guar gum</kwd><kwd>carboxymethylcellulose</kwd><kwd>starch</kwd><kwd>biohydrogen</kwd><kwd>dark fermentation</kwd><kwd>hydraulic fracturing</kwd><kwd>pretreatment</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Chen B., Barboza B.
